The Chorabari Tal, also known as Gandhi Tal, is an antique lake produced from the Chorabari glacier. According the mythology, this lake was the place where Lord Shiva imparted the knowledge of Yoga to the Saptrishi. In the year 1948, some of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed here, after which the lake renamed as Gandhi Sarovar. The place is located about 4 kms away from the town Kedarnath and tourists visit there in summers because of its difficult trek to reach there. There is a Bhairava Temple closed to the glacier which is adjacent to a cliff which is named Bhairava Jhamp.
