Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary is extended across an area of 600 square kilometers. The sanctuary is located approximately 54 km from Pithoragarh. The height of the area differs from 600 meters to 7,000 meters above sea level.
The sanctuary was established in the year 1987 primarily with an object to preserve the Musk Deers. But in today’s scenario the place has become the habitat to multiple species foreign birds. The various species of forests like Leopard, Musk deer, Jungle Cat and Brown Bear etc. with a glut of various resident and migratory birds can be found here.
There is a river named Kali which creates a boundary that separates the area from the neighboring country, Nepal from the east side and Tibet from the south side. The place has also a wide range of flora and fauna with some of the special shrubs, trees and herbs.
The timings of the sanctuary to be visited is from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm every day.
