A remote village of Almora district, Katarmal is located at an altitude of approx. 2116 metres above the sea level, at a distance of 1.5 kilometres from Kosi village and 12 kilometres from the main Almora. Katarmal is very well connected by the road. Katarmal is known for Surya Temple named Katarmal Sun Temple which was constructed by Katyuri Kings during the 9th Century CE. It has forty four smaller temples around the main deity Surya. During the 10th century an idol was stolen, after which the carved wooden doors and panels were shifted to the National Museum, New Delhi.
